Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 10g butter
  • ½ cup full cream milk
  • A handful of shredded cheese or 1-2 slices of cheese
  • Water (optional, to adjust sauce consistency)
  • A pinch of salt and pepper (optional, keep minimal for toddlers)
  • ½ to 1 tsp mushroom powder seasoning (adjust to taste, for added umami flavor)
  • Pasta of your choice (small shapes like macaroni, penne, or shells are toddler-friendly)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Boil the pasta in a pot of water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Cheese Sauce
    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
    • Stir in the plain flour to make a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
    • Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens.
  3. Add Cheese and Mushroom Powder
    • Reduce the heat and add the cheese, stirring until fully melted.
    • Stir in the mushroom powder seasoning for an extra boost of flavor. If the sauce is too thick, add a little water or milk to adjust the consistency.
  4. Seasoning: Add a pinch of salt and pepper if desired. Keep it light for toddlers.
  5. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Mix the cooked pasta with the cheese sauce until evenly coated.
  6. Serve: Allow the pasta to cool slightly before serving.

Tips for Toddlers:

  • Add finely chopped veggies like broccoli, carrots, or peas for extra nutrition.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days, reheating gently with a splash of milk if needed.
